Paternal Nutritional Programming of Lipid Metabolism is Propagated Through Sperm and Seminal Plasma

The paternal diet affects lipid metabolism in offspring for at least two generations through nutritional programming. However, we do not know how this is propagated.  We tested the hypothesis that changes are driven by propagated spermatozoa and seminal plasma.  We applied an updated, purpose-built computational tool to analyse systemically (Lipid Traffic Analysis v2.3).  analysis showed possible routes programming effects, sperm (genes) plasma (influence on uterine environment), both have a distinct effect offspring’s metabolism.  Further, effects suggest distribution more important than alterations biosynthesis.  These results highlight environment epigenetic shape offspring, enhancing our understanding of link between parental offspring.
